Homeschool Skate Academy
Class Descriptions

Please note, you do not have to be a homeschooler to be apart of any of these classes.
You may have a preschooler that wants to skate, or you may want to take lessons
in our adult classes for yourself.  All are welcome! :o)
 

Snowplow Sam 1,2,3
Ages 3 and up
The Snowplow Sam level is designed to help young tots become familiar with the ice. As they advance through the levels, the elements gradually become more difficult. They will learn elements such as forward skating, backward skating and stopping.
We love to make this class fun with drawing little tracks on the ice with different stations to cover different elements. We trace the children on the ice and make silly faces, play with stuffed animals and make ice angels!  We have a lot of fun with a huge emphasis on safety.

Basic Skills 1&2 
Ages 6 and up
This level is designed to help a beginner skater learn different elements. They will learn skills like : Forward skating, swizzles, backward skating, and stopping.

Basic Skills 3-4 
Ages 6 & up
These levels are designed for intermediate level skaters. Skaters will learn skills like: forward and backward crossovers, edges, spins, and variations in stopping. The skater MUST have passed the basic skill levels 1 & 2 in order to move on to basic 3-4.

Basic Skills 5-6
Ages 6 & up
These levels are designed for intermediate level skaters. Skaters will learn skills like inside and outside edges, beginning of one foot spin, hops, lunges, Mohawks and basic jumps. 
The skater MUST have passed the basic skill levels 3 & 4 in order to move on to basic 5 - 8.

Basic Skills 7, 8
Ages 6 & up.

These levels are designed for intermediate level skaters. Skaters will enhance their skills like inside and outside edges, spins, hops, lunges and jumps. 
The skater MUST have passed the basic skill levels 5-6 in order to move on to this class.

Freestyle 1-6
These levels are designed for skaters who have passed Basic skills 1-8.

Off ice Conditioning Class
Off ice training for on ice improvement.  This class will work on building endurance through exercise and various other methods.  Great for everyone!

NEW! Theater Class!
For the session of 4/29 - 6/17, we will be skating in the "Wizard of Oz".. Come skate down
the yellow brick road!!  All levels are welcome.

Adult Class 
Moms! Dads! Teens! Want to learn how to skate?  This class will cover the beginning levels of skating as well as cover proper stretching and warm-up techniques [for those older bones] :o)

Parent and Tot 
Ages 3-5 (along w/ parent)

These classes are designed for the parents to interact with their child while learning to skate. This makes a fun an
d relaxed setting for children to learn to skate. Everyone gets to learn at their own pace.  Elements covered are forward and backward skating, and stopping.

Family Class
Ages 6 & up.
Mom! Dad! Do you want to learn to skate too??  You can learn as a family!  There are no age levels with this class.  This class the Basic 1-2 level.  Elements covered are forward skating, swizzles, dips, glides, stopping and more. 
Limit 3 per family and an adult must be present with the children.

Hockey
This class is for all students who wish to learn the basics of hockey.  Each student must pass the Basic 1 &  2 classes before entering this class.  Each student must have a helmet and gloves. We can provide the hockey sticks.
